Renewables Tasmania

Tasmanian Renewable Energy Action Plan

We’ve already met our 2022 target of 100 per cent self-sufficiency in renewable energy production, making us one of only a handful of places around the world to have achieved this. While our first-class wind resources and extensive hydroelectricity schemes have helped us get there, we’re not resting on our laurels.

In November 2020, the Government legislated a new Tasmania Renewable Energy Target. This ambitious goal aims to increase the state’s renewable energy output by 200 per cent based on 2022’s renewable energy figures. So, in 2040, Tasmania will produce twice as much clean power as we do in 2022.

To grow our renewable energy sector sustainably over the next 20 years, the Government has set out its vision and suite of actions in the Tasmanian Renewable Energy Action Plan and Tasmanian Renewable Hydrogen Action Plan. We encourage you to read them.
